Choose a laptop stand by the screen position you need, the laptop it must support and whether it will stay on one desk. These seven exact selections offer different fixed, adjustable and portable arrangements. None is a universal winner, and a stand is useful only when it solves a setup problem.

What a laptop stand can—and cannot—solve

A laptop’s screen and keyboard are attached. Raising the whole device changes both positions at once; raising a standing desk alone does not separate them. Cornell’s laptop guidance recommends a stable support where needed to see the screen without bending the neck, plus a separate keyboard and mouse for full-time workstation use.

Set the desk around comfortable input-device use, then position the display independently. CCOHS describes monitor height, viewing distance and viewing angle as connected decisions; adjust for readable text, vision needs and a comfortable head position. Do not force a universal measurement or assume standing requires more lift than sitting.

A stand is useful when the laptop display is too low and the selected support can put it in a suitable position. It does not guarantee relief from pain, treat an injury or replace breaks and posture changes. If an existing stable support or external display already works, another stand may be unnecessary.

1. Roost V3

1
Roost V3
Portable screen support

The Roost V3 is the option to consider when the stand needs to move between workstations. Its folding support differs from the broad fixed platforms below. Use it to lift the laptop display while a separate keyboard and mouse stay on the work surface.

Fit and limits: Before buying, check the laptop’s front edge, base shape, dimensions and weight against Roost’s current compatibility instructions. A screen-size label alone does not confirm that the gripping arrangement will fit. Set up and secure the supports as directed; do not assume a folding stand is safe to carry with a laptop attached.

When to choose it: Choose it for a portable setup if its support geometry fits your laptop. If the stand will remain on one desk, compare a fixed support first. We have not measured its stability against the other stands.

2. Nulaxy C3 — grey

2
Nulaxy C3 — grey
Fixed desktop support

The C3 is a fixed laptop riser for a workstation where one screen position already works. Its open support leaves room beneath the laptop, but the useful clearance depends on your equipment and cables.

Fit and limits: Measure the screen position you need before choosing a fixed stand. The stand’s lift is not the same as the height of the top of your display; laptop size and lid angle also matter. If different people share the desk, a fixed position may not suit everyone.

When to choose it: Consider the C3 when its fixed geometry matches your setup. Choose an adjustable design if you need to tune the screen independently of the desktop. No temperature, noise or wobble reduction is promised.

3. Rain Design mStand 10072 — space gray

3
Rain Design mStand 10072 — space gray
Fixed support with rear cable opening

This is the fixed mStand in space gray, model 10072—not the rotating mStand360. The rear opening provides a route for cables, and the raised platform can leave usable space below the laptop.

Fit and limits: The platform does not offer independent height adjustment. Check the footprint and viewing position before buying, and keep the laptop’s vents unobstructed. Route cables with slack for desk movement rather than letting the opening become a tight anchor point.

When to choose it: Consider the mStand for a permanent desk if the fixed position and cable route suit it. It is not a solution for someone who needs to adjust screen height repeatedly. See our cable-routing guide for the desk-to-floor connections.

4. Soundance LS1 — silver

4
Soundance LS1 — silver
Fixed support for 10–15.6-inch laptops

The linked silver LS1 is specified for 10–15.6-inch laptops. It is another fixed-height option, so compare its actual footprint and support surfaces with your laptop rather than choosing it on a claimed price advantage.

Fit and limits: A 16-inch laptop is outside that stated screen-size range. Check the current load and dimensional limits too, including any case fitted to the laptop. Follow the assembly instructions and ensure the supports sit flat before loading the stand.

When to choose it: Consider the LS1 for a compatible laptop on a desk where its fixed position works. If you need a different screen height, do not stack it on improvised objects; choose a suitably rated adjustable support.

5. OMOTON LA04S — silver

5
OMOTON LA04S — silver
Adjustable support with rotating base

The silver LA04S combines an articulated support with a 360-degree rotating base. Its stated laptop range extends up to 17 inches. Height and angle adjustment make it relevant when a fixed riser cannot place the display where you need it.

Fit and limits: Check the current weight and dimensional limits; a 17-inch compatibility statement does not cover every large or heavy laptop. Adjust the stand as its instructions specify, ensuring the laptop is properly supported and cables cannot pull it as you turn the base.

When to choose it: Consider the LA04S when adjustable positioning or turning the display serves a real purpose. We have not measured its adjustment range or vibration against the other stands, so it is not ranked as the highest or most stable.

6. BESIGN LSX7 — black

6
BESIGN LSX7 — black
Foldable adjustable support for 10–15.6-inch laptops

The black LSX7 has an articulated, foldable design and a rotating base. The verified variant is specified for 10–15.6-inch laptops; it is not a recommendation for a 16-inch device.

Fit and limits: Check load limits, support contact points and clearance for your laptop’s ports and vents. Follow the supplied instructions for adjusting and folding the stand; remove the laptop where instructed. Confirm there is enough clear desk space for the base and the laptop as you turn or reposition it.

When to choose it: Consider the LSX7 when you need adjustable positioning within its stated compatibility range. Choose a different rated support if your device falls outside that range; spending less or more does not establish compatibility.

7. Twelve South Curve Flex TS-2202 — white

7
Twelve South Curve Flex TS-2202 — white
Articulated foldable support

This is the white Curve Flex TS-2202, not the fixed-height Curve or the vertical BookArc Flex. Its articulated frame lets you change the platform position, and the stand folds for storage or transport.

Fit and limits: Check the manufacturer’s laptop dimensions and weight limits, and compare folded size and carry weight with your actual bag. Being foldable does not establish that it is the lightest choice. Account for separate input devices in a travel setup and keep charging cables free of the moving joints.

When to choose it: Consider the Curve Flex when adjustable positioning and a foldable frame both matter. If you never move the stand and a fixed support already fits, this design may add a function you do not need. We have not tested its hinge feel or desk-motion stability.

Check the workstation before choosing a stand

1. Find the required screen position

Place the keyboard and mouse where your shoulders can relax and your wrists need not bend to reach them. Check the display in both seated and standing positions. Adjust text size, distance, lid angle and glare before assuming extra height is the only answer. Our standing-desk setup guide covers the wider workstation.

2. Measure more than screen diagonal

Check laptop weight, width, depth, front-edge shape and any case, together with the stand’s load rating and support arrangement. Confirm the supports do not obstruct ports, vents or opening the screen. A stand advertised for a range of screen sizes still needs these checks.

3. Allow room for inputs and cables

Measure the footprint with the laptop open and a separate keyboard and mouse in place. Leave usable mouse space and a comfortable viewing distance. Check power and display leads at both desk heights; a cable must not pull the laptop or stand during movement.

4. Treat ventilation as a clearance check

Keep vents unobstructed and follow the laptop maker’s instructions. An open support may leave more space around the base, but that does not establish a lower temperature, quieter fans or faster performance. We have not measured those outcomes for these stands.

5. Check movement without assuming protection

Install and load the stand as instructed, then check its position during normal permitted desk travel. Stop if the support shifts or a cable becomes taut. Do not treat a higher price, fewer joints or a broad base as proof against tipping or vibration.

Fixed, adjustable or portable: which function do you need?

  • Fixed supports: Nulaxy C3, mStand and Soundance LS1 suit a position that already fits. Their main limitation is the inability to tune height independently.
  • Adjustable supports: OMOTON LA04S, BESIGN LSX7 and Curve Flex allow position changes. Confirm their usable adjustment and load limits for your actual laptop; adjust only as instructed.
  • Portable setups: consider Roost V3 or another foldable option if you actually move between desks. Compare total carried size and weight, including keyboard, mouse, charger and cables.

No category wins for everyone. A compatible fixed stand may be enough for a permanent setup; adjustability matters if that position does not work. Portability has little value if the support never leaves the desk.

Plan separate input devices for extended laptop work

Raising a laptop for its screen also raises its built-in keyboard and trackpad. For a regular workstation, Cornell recommends separate input devices so display and typing positions can be set independently. Reuse a keyboard and mouse you already have if they fit the task; a new stand does not require buying a whole accessory kit.

If the desktop’s minimum height still leaves typing too high, a compatible keyboard tray may be worth considering. It is not automatically needed. For occasional brief laptop use, adjust as comfortably as possible and change position; no particular number of minutes makes an awkward posture harmless.

Problems to check after setup

  • Screen still too low or too high: reassess required lift, viewing distance and text size. Choose a support that fits instead of balancing it on an unstable stack.
  • Movement or rocking: check assembly, level contact, laptop fit and load limits. Stop using a stand with damage or loose parts that cannot be corrected as instructed.
  • Keyboard difficult to reach: position separate input devices independently rather than raising your shoulders to type on the laptop.
  • Blocked vents or ports: relocate the support only within the approved contact arrangement; use a different compatible design if needed.
  • Cables pull during desk travel: correct the route or cable length before moving the desk again.
  • Too little desk depth: measure the full open-laptop setup, including input devices, before buying.

These are setup checks, not measured complaint frequencies. If a laptop display cannot be placed comfortably in the available space, an external display with a suitable monitor support is another configuration to evaluate.
